WorldCup Bet Of good Day: Spain – Switzerland
Ever since Spain made its first participation in the World Cup in 1934, La Roja has not been characterised by starring in spectacular performances in its debut in the tournament. Actually, it is quite the opposite.
Out of the 12 participations in World Cup history, Spain has only won in four of those matches: a 3-1 victory against Brazil in 1934 and another 3-1 against USA in 1950, plus a 3-1 against Slovenia in 2002 and the 4-0 against Ukraine in 2006. The other eight debuts could not be more disappointing, as Spain registered four defeats (1962, 1966, 1978, 1986, 1998) and three draws (1982, 1990, 1994).
However, everyone in Spain agrees that the history of bad starts is not to be repeated. The good moment of the European Champions, the high level of performances of Spanish players and the supposedly weaker rival – which also lacks its main star, Alexander Frei – constitute the main signs to foresee a positive premiere for Spaniards.
No one expects a thrashing like the last friendly match played by Spain before the WC (a spectacular 6-0 against Poland); a convincing but self-effacing triumph by 2-0 or 3-1 is more likely to happen.
Switzerland win!
